Grant by Alexander Culpeper, esquire, to Roger Manwood of the Inner Temple, London, gentleman, of a capital messuage called in the vulgar "Saint Stevens in Hors Stabul," with all its apperterances, situated in Hackington next Canterbury in the county Kent, which Christopher Hales, knight, now deceased, held; and 40 acres of land in certain crofts or parcels in Hackington aforesaid, now or late in the occupation of Thomas Coyfe or his assigns; and a parcel of wood in Hackington called in the vulgar "Cranewood" containing in estimation 21 acres. [Here the rest of the line and much of the next has been carefully erased by the scribe and crossed out, so that few traces of the text are still visible even under U.V. light--obviously an error]. And another woodland in Hackington called in the vulgar "Dawesood", containing an estimated 20 acres and another called "Stockfisshewood" containing an estimated 3 acres and another called "Claypot Wood," one acre, and another, "Millers Wood," 3 acres, with warranty against all men except the Archbishop and the
